Our titular protag, Asuka, saves her, but as a regular person who was almost murdered, she’s naturally traumatized. In episode one’s terrorist attack a side character is almost shot. The point is this is GRITTY and REALISTIC! And as much as I’ve been making fun of it, the show actually does it pretty well. See, in real life, innocent people do stuff like die to poorly animated terrorist attacks, and ambiguous middle-east/Africa places recruit child soldiers, and the government flippantly disregards human rights because nobody can effectively call them out on it. That is, realistic in the same way that one Call of Duty game is realistic. What makes this one worth a rant? Well, unlike the rest of the Madoka-but-with-more-blood shows, this one is REALISTIC!!!! You can tell it’s an edgy magical girl anime because they call their magical girls ‘magical girls’ and they talk about how the magical girls on tv are unrealistic and for babies sometimes. ![]() You know the ones it falls someone on the razor blade of edge that’s been sharpening itself ever since Madoka Magica became popular. Magical Girl Spec Ops Asuka is one of those ‘new-wave’ magical girl anime. Now that we’ve established nobody is going to read this, it’s time to begin. ![]() You’re probably reading this in the fucking preview. ![]() Nobody gives a shit about Spec Ops Asuka, you don’t even know what this is.
